We welcome pitches that make one part of football easier to understand for a general reader. A strong contribution has a clear question, a well-defined scope and an explanation that respects the limits of its examples.

What to pitch

Propose a concise explainer about a rule, role, tactical idea, match format or way of watching the game. Choose a focused subject that can stand on its own, define specialist terms and explain why the topic matters to someone following a match.

What to include

Send a short outline, the intended reader and the main point the piece will leave them with. Note any sources you expect to rely on and flag where the explanation depends on a particular competition or context. Do not send confidential material or claim access you cannot substantiate.

How to send a proposal

Send proposals through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. A pitch is a proposal, not a guarantee of publication; please do not submit a complete article unless it has been requested.
